Green Day kicked off the North American leg of its 21st Century Breakdown world tour
Green Day kicked off the North American leg of its 21st Century Breakdown world tour on Friday (July 3rd) in Seattle with a 24-song, two-hour set that leaned heavily on the band's new concept record without playing the entire album. According to RollingStone.com, the group also brought out a healthy mix of hits and classics from its previous seven albums, playing in front of a backdrop of a city night skyline and punctuated by video projections, flashbombs and other pyrotechnics.
- The main trio of frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool was augmented by guitarists Jason White and Jeff Matika, along with keyboardist Jason Freese.
- Armstrong brought one young fan onstage to dance during "East Jesus Nowhere," and accepted a kiss on the lips from another male fan during "Longview." A third fan got to play guitar for the entire nine minutes of "Jesus Of Suburbia."
