A large wild fire burning just south of Tumbler Ridge has crews from the Prince George Fire Centre busy. Fire Information Officer Jill Chimko says the Windfall Creek fire has grown to about 150 hectares. She says about 40 fire fighters are working on the blaze, but it has, so far, not yet been contained. No homes are threatened by the fire. She says the nearest residents haven't noticed any loss of air quality. There are two other wild fires burning in the area, but are not considered serious. Meanwhile ... the Prince George Fire Centre is reporting a dramatic spike in the number of wildfires in 2008. Already this year, there have been 176. That's up from 89 by the same time last year.
