Australian and Japanese energy companies launch joint venture into the Peace
Xstrata Coal announced a $35 million joint venture on Tuesday, conducting a pre-feasibility study into a coal operation between Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd. The announcement was made in Tokyo, in conjunction with BC Premier Christy Clark's visit to Japan.
The Australian mining giant is conducting the study into the Suska Coal project in conjunction with JX Nippon Oil and Energy, and is scheduled to be complete before July 2013.
Xstrata already has over 100 thousand hectares under licence for coal mining operations in the Peace region.
